Philadelphia Characters - January 2008 Update

You might remember in our 2007 Wrap Up we discussed some of our favorite local characters. Even though 2008 has just begun we feel that an update is necessary due to all the awesome and hilarious people we have seen lately. Here goes:

Homeless guy that sleeps in ATM vestibule: We were walking by a Citizen's Bank on the way to First Friday when we noticed inside the ATM vestibule there was a man laying on the floor with his head propped up on one of his hands (similar to the classic pin-up pose). This guy was just gazing into space, deep in thought. Very classy.

2008 guy: On that same First Friday we also observed a man running up to people on the street and trying to talk to them about anything. It really didn't seem to matter what. He was only wearing a t-shirt, and was asking everyone why they were walking so fast, as it "wasn't even cold out". He probably didn't realize they were trying to get away from his crazy ass. He was also wearing 2008 sunglasses and we heard him ask one couple, "Excuse me! hello. Is it 2008? Am I wearing 2008?"

Earlier that day we observed a man sitting on a milk crate and loudly mumbling to no one in particular- "Happy birthday happybirthdayhappybirthday.......happy birthday." I thanked him for remembering my birthday, but I couldn't believe it was everyone else's birthday too.

One man we didn't mention last time can frequently be found at 18th & Market Street selling Calvin urination T-shirts. His sales pitch used to be "The eagles are playing like shit. Pass me another beer." Over and over again. Well, he recently changed it up a bit. Now it involves calling someone named "Romo" a "homo" in a very flamboyant voice.

The Philadelphia Ambassador: This guy brought our great city into the new year with style. We were walking back from the New Years Day Parade along the Parkway (which you may or may not know is decorated with flags from around the world) when we had the pleasure of hearing him welcome the flags to Philadelphia. The first thing we heard was "How you doin Puerto Rico, we're here in beautiful Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Welcome! And here comes Ireland..."
